Living Life like a Road Trip – Learn to Relax in Life!

Hey, it’s Paul Krismer, your happiness expert, and I’m coming to you from somewhere out here in the middle of nowhere, Nevada. You can see from the background behind me, I’m on a road trip, having a good time, laid back, easy going, and it’s a little bit like traveling when you’re on an airplane too, where there’s additional stress, but eventually, you get to the relaxed part. On those road trips, you know, there’s the checking your baggage and getting through security, and sometimes crossing borders, even before you get on the plane. You go through American customs in Canada, for instance. But then, once you get through all that stuff and you get to the gate, it’s time to chill out. It’s time to just enjoy the process of being transported from one place to another. Well, that’s what this video is about. It feels to me like it’s the beginning of summer and I’m on a road trip. So, stay tuned, I’m gonna tell you how you can enjoy your road trips too.

As a coach, public speaker, and best-selling author, I teach topics just like this one all around the world. So, stay tuned and I’ll give you practical tools that you can use to make both yourself and those around you both happier and more successful. So, here I am, not too far from Las Vegas, but I’m headed to Oregon. It’s about a 12-hour drive, not including stops for peace and food, and I’m with my son Paul. He’s the cameraman, and we’re gonna go check out a university that he may attend when he’s finished in Montpellier, France where he’s attending right now. To get there, we could have flown but then be a couple hours away, and then have to rent a car and all that was just like, you know what, let’s just go on a road trip. And so, it’s a Thursday afternoon. We’ve got a little bit of food and beverage, and we’re headed to a motel that’s about five hours away from here. There’s nothing to do except enjoy the trip, enjoy the conversation, enjoy nibbling away on snacks, and of course, checking out the gorgeous scenery that the desert has. We just saw a lightning strike up here not too long ago. That’s just beautiful, and the cool part about it when you’re road tripping with somebody you love, there’s the dialogue, there’s the silly conversations that get deeply philosophical or ridiculously minute and unimportant, it’s the passing of time.

There’s a good book that we’re going to probably listen to some of the journey here too that Paul wanted to share with me. And it’s just all that kind of connection time, bonding time that we’ve got to look forward to. And the whole trip is about setting this kid up for his future success. So there’s a theme to it, the hanging out, and the life that’s going to yet to be lived there. And maybe there’s some tips for our life generally about it. Do we have time and activity built into our lives where we do the equivalent of a road trip? Where we just gear down, spend time with people that’s quality, no place to go, nothing to do, just connect? I bet there’s a lot of ways that we can build that into our lives more simply. The short road trip, that trip up to the lake, it’s a half hour drive from home, and if it doesn’t really matter when we get there, can we have the attitude that it’s just relaxed? And frankly, can we build that into our own homes? Can we be just relaxed, with no agenda, listening to some good music in the home, or making a very casual, relaxed dinner? Not in a rush to get the kids fed and then get off to the evening activities that need to be done. Maybe as you listen to this video today, you can contemplate it for yourself. Is there something road trip-like that you can build into your life? Maybe in the next week, and maybe on a regular basis, where it’s just connecting, relaxed, and feeling like you’ve got a purpose, but it’s not one you’re hurrying.

That’s it for this week. I’m your happiness expert. If you like this kind of stuff, click the like button, share with your friends and family, and of course, always with your HR directors because this stuff is about how we live our lives. A lot of our lives are lived at work. Thanks for watching. See you next week.
