In her final role, she served as Director, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, where she led a major change effort that resulted in a 36% increase in recruitment outcomes amidst a national recruitment crisis and her team achieving talent acquisition goals for the first time in seven years.
Shannon served as the Wisconsin Guard’s Diversity Advisory Team Leader part-time. She was competitively selected and appointed as an inaugural member of the Department of the Army’s Women’s Initiative Team and sole National Guard officer. She led a grassroots effort to promote gender equity and support to pregnant and postpartum Soldiers and military families, achieving a 50% reduction in pregnancy-related discharges while increasing retention and promotion rates for parents and women. She led the drafting of a national program to support 350,000 Soldiers across the Army National Guard.
Shannon is a graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff Officer Course. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she majored in Sociology, Political Science and Women’s Studies. She holds a master’s degree in Human Resources and Employee Relations from Penn State and is Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certified.
Shannon’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, four Meritorious Service Medals, the Combat Action Badge, and the National Guard Recruiting Badge, among others.
